This week on The Transforming Anxiety Podcast, I wanted to share my thoughts on coaching with you. Y'know, go back to the basics: what are we doing around here anyway? What is at the heart of this work? Who is it for?
I think of life coaching as coaching for the game of life. I know, duh. But I really do.
Look around at the people who are at the very top of their (metaphorical) game: elite athletes, successful executives, ambitious entrepreneurs, sure, but also someone who wants to comfortably retire and needs to organize their finances, or someone who is looking to improve their physical health through exercise and nutrition, or someone who wants to deepen their knowledge in a particular area.
What do they do? They hire an expert, a coach. They don't YouTube it or read a book or just wing it; they seek out a professional to help them get where they want to go.
Yet...the struggles that we all face with stress, anxiety, overwhelm, self-doubt, and worry are things we’ve been left to figure out on our own. We think, "Yeah, I'm half-stuck in the muck of anxiety but I'm sure it'll be fine" at the same time that we seek out and hire someone to teach us how to knit.
Knitting is fine, but this is kinda messed up.
Why don't we take care of ourselves this way? Why don't we prioritize our own mental and emotional wellbeing, so that we can show up the way we want to? What would be possible for *you* if anxiety weren't such a "thing?"
Wild success doesn't happen without solid coaching...and neither does transforming anxiety.
