One of the truthiest truths I know is that we are all trying to get control. Control of the kids, our schedules, our bank accounts...control of the pandemic news, the political opinions, the understanding we have about what's going on in the world...control of our minds, how we're feeling, and what we're DOING, dammit.
This week on The Transforming Anxiety Podcast, I'd like to explore the idea that, well, we don't really have all that much control...
...but that we do have a GREAT amount of influence over our lives and our experiences.
We can't control what happens out there. Life gets pretty life-y. And no amount of effort grants us more authority over what's coming at us. I'm sure you've noticed that by now.
You know what, though? You have the power of influence, meaning you can:
Direct your attention towards more of what you want in your life (and away from what you don't want)
Sway your entire emotional landscape, generating feelings on purpose and crowding out unnecessary feelings
Choose the thoughts and feelings you want to live into...which gives you enormous power over the results in your life
Control isn't a useful aim. We just aren't getting it. (Those of you trying to grab on to control day after day know what I'm talking about.)
